Baxter AI
Baxter is WordPuppi’s AI co-editor. It is a chat panel that sits beside your site, reads and changes the same content you edit by hand, and can build a whole site from a brief. It works through the same tools the MCP server exposes, so anything it does is something you could have done yourself in the admin.
Chats belong to one site. Each transcript is stored in that site’s own content database, and Baxter is told which site it is working on, so it never reaches across into another one.
Opening Baxter
Press Baxter AI in the footer of the site sidebar. On a phone-width screen the same button is in the top bar. Baxter remembers whether you left it open, per browser.
On wider screens Baxter opens as a rail on the right. The Move Baxter to the bottom button in its header docks it under the page instead, and the same button then reads Move Baxter to the right. The dock choice is remembered too.
The header carries five controls:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| AI settings (cog) | Add your own provider key. See Providers and your own keys. |
| Move Baxter to the bottom / right | Switch the dock. Wide screens only. |
| New chat (plus) | Start a fresh transcript. |
| Chat history (clock) | Reopen, delete, or clear chats for this site. |
| Close Baxter | Hide the panel. |
A new chat shows prompt chips you can click to fill the box: Write a blog post, Polish this draft, Create a page, Share on my platforms, Schedule a bark, Tweak my theme, Connect a platform, Build & deploy, and Bring a site over from a link. Polish and share use whatever post or page you have open.
Type into Ask Baxter and press Enter to send. Shift Enter adds a new line. The stop button ends a reply in progress.
Models
The model picker sits above the message box. Search it by model or provider name, and use Filter by routing provider to narrow the list. Each row shows the provider, a strength and speed meter, an eye icon when the model can look at pictures, and its price.
Auto (free) is the default. It routes to a free OpenRouter model chosen at answer time, and when the answer arrives the model that actually served it is shown next to the picker.
The pin button opens Account pins. Pin a model or a whole provider and it floats to the top of the list, for every site and device on the account. Only the account owner can change pins. The refresh button next to the picker re-pulls a paid provider’s model list, and appears only when you have one.
Providers and your own keys
Without a key of your own, Baxter runs on WordPuppi’s key and only the free tier. To use paid models, add a key:
Open AI settings
Press the cog in Baxter’s header. The dialog is also opened for you when you run out of free actions, or when the New Site wizard needs a key for the model you picked.
Choose a provider and paste the key
Providers are OpenRouter, OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepSeek, Z.ai, Moonshot, Qwen, and GitHub Copilot. Give the key a name if you like, then press Add key.
Pick a model
The key is verified with the provider before it is stored, and its models appear in the picker straight away.
A key is encrypted, and after saving you only ever see the last four characters. Keys added from Baxter are personal. To share one with the whole account, or pin it to a single site, use Account, AI Provider Keys, which groups keys as Personal, Account, and Site.
Free actions
On WordPuppi’s key you get 15 free actions. An action is one tool call that actually ran, such as saving a post or starting a build. A tool call you rejected, or one that was waiting on your approval, does not count. The counter under the picker reads “N free actions left”, and shows when the model you have picked would run on WordPuppi’s key.
When they are gone, Baxter shows a banner with a Get a free key link to OpenRouter. Add your own free OpenRouter key and Baxter keeps working: the free models stay free, you just use your own quota.
Approving actions
Baxter can call the same tools as the MCP server. Anything that only reads runs straight away. Actions that delete, publish, deploy, or reach outside WordPuppi pause first and show a card with the tool name, why it is asking, and the exact arguments it wants to send. Choose Approve to run it or Reject to skip it; a rejected call is listed as Skipped. The message box is locked with “Waiting for your approval above” until you decide.
While a turn runs, each tool call is listed with a spinner, then Done or Failed. Bark actions link to Open calendar, and builds link to the site’s preview.
Attachments
The paperclip next to the box attaches files to your next message. You can also paste a screenshot straight into the box. A message carries up to 4 files, each up to 10 MB.
| File type | What Baxter gets |
|---|---|
| Pictures (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF) | The picture itself, but only if the picked model can see pictures (the eye icon), and only up to 5 MB per picture. Auto (free) cannot promise that, so pick a specific model. |
| Text and Markdown | The text, extracted up to 20,000 characters per file. Works with any model. |
| The text, extracted up to 20,000 characters per file. Works with any model. | |
| Audio and video | A transcript, but only when the site has a direct OpenAI key. Otherwise the model is told the file is attached but not transcribed, and does not guess at what it says. |
Every attachment is saved to the site’s media library, under the Baxter tab, and counts toward the site’s media quota. Attached text is passed to the model as data to read, never as instructions to follow.
Building a site with Baxter
New Site in the sites list opens a chooser with three starting points: Start blank, Build with Baxter, and Bring a site over.
Describe the site
Enter a Site name (the slug follows it), then describe what you want. Optionally press Attach to add a logo, photos, or a brief.
Choose a skill and a model
A skill is a working style. The buttons come from the server: Love plans with you first and then builds the whole site in one pass, Based starts from your content types and builds pages around them, Vee goes design first, Bolt asks three questions and ships, and Port brings a site over. A strong model builds a much better site than the free one, and the wizard says so.
Build it
Press Build it. The wizard needs a key for the model’s provider. If you have none, it opens AI settings first and creates nothing. Otherwise it creates the site, opens its Posts page, and hands your brief to Baxter, which asks its clarifying questions in chat before it builds.
If the hand-off is interrupted, the button changes to Continue to Baxter rather than creating a second site.
Bring a site over
Bring a site over (also a button on the sites list, and a chip in Baxter) uses the Port skill to rebuild a site you own on WordPuppi. Paste the link to its preview, for example from base44, Lovable, or v0, and add notes about what to change, drop, or keep. Baxter reads the pages, copy, images, colours, and theme from that link and rebuilds them here. Only public web addresses are fetched.
Ask Baxter from the canvas
In the page and template designer, select something on the canvas and ask Baxter about just that selection. There are three ways in:
- the Baxter button in the selection’s toolbar, titled Ask Baxter
- right click and choose Ask Baxter
- Cmd K (or Ctrl K) while something is selected
A small box opens, tagged with the current device size. Type what you want, for example a two column layout, and press Send. Baxter opens with the selection attached and edits the saved page, so save first if you have unsaved changes. When it finishes, the canvas reloads, re-selects the same elements, flashes them, and reports “Baxter changed N elements”. If Baxter wrote the page, a Revert button under its answer puts the page back as it was.
Asking to “copy this below” is handled by the canvas itself as a duplicate, without calling a model. Canvas designs need the Basic or Pro plan; on Free the ask box shows an upgrade notice instead.
Deleting chats
Open Chat history to see this site’s chats. The trash icon beside a chat deletes just that transcript, after a confirmation. Clear all chats at the bottom deletes every chat your account has on this site.
On mobile
The mobile app has Baxter as its own tab in the middle of the bottom bar, sharing the same site chat, and a screen for your AI provider keys. See Where you can use WordPuppi.
